La actual Plaza de España fue en época medieval el lugar que, extramuros, se empleó para establecer un mercado en el burgo. Tras la ampliación del cerco amurallado en 1367, este amplio lugar quedaría intramuros y por tanto protegido. Con la instalación a finales del siglo XVI del pósito o alhóndiga se inicia una nueva época que llevará a esta plaza a convertirse en el nuevo centro administrativo de la ciudad. n medieval times, the current Plaza de España was the place outside the walls that was used to establish a market in the burgh. After the extension of the walled enclosure in 1367, this large place was left inside the walls and therefore protected. With the installation of the granary or alhóndiga at the end of the 16th century, a new era began and this square became the new administrative centre of the city. Photo: Sergio Espinosa
