Batalla del Clarete en San Asensio
La localidad riojana de San Asensio celebra la Batalla del Clarete, el domingo más cercano a la festividad de Santiago (25 de julio). El Clarete es un tipo de vino fresco, joven y de color rosado claro, que se elabora en esta zona de la Rioja Alta.
Tiene lugar a las 12 del medio día en el Barrio de las Bodegas y los participantes utilizan sulfatadoras, pistolas de agua, cubos y todo tipo de instrumentos en una batalla «todos contra todos» para la que se dispone de 30.000 litros de vino clarete donados por las cooperativas y bodegas de la zona. La diversión y buen ambiente es el principal objetivo y la contienda finaliza con la ropa teñida de color morado y las tradicionales «vueltas» que se bailan en la Plaza Vieja.
Clarete Battle in San Asensio
The town of San Asensio celebrates the Clarete Battle the sunday closest to the feast of Santiago (July 25). Clarete is a type of fresh, young and pale pink wine that is made in this area of Rioja Alta.
This liquid war takes place at noon (12:00) in the Barrio de las Bodegas and the participants use sulphating machines, water pistols, buckets and all kinds of instruments in a battle «all against all». The contestants have 30,000 liters available, which are donated by cooperatives and wineries in the area. Fun and a good atmosphere is the main objective and the contest ends with the clothes dyed purple and the traditional «vueltas» (turns) that are danced in the Plaza Vieja.
