Clavijo y su castillo
La pequeña localidad de Clavijo es famosa por su castillo, una fortificación de origen medieval con unas vistas excelentes sobre el valle del Iregua hasta su encuentro con la ciudad de Logroño. A los pies de los montes de Cameros que, bajan de la cordillera Ibérica hacia el valle del Ebro, y que separan las comarcas del Camero Viejo y del Camero Nuevo. Este espacio fue el escenario de la Batalla de Clavijo, uno de los episodios más célebres de la Reconquista en el que las tropas del rey Ramiro I de Asturias lucharon contra los musulmanes el 23 de mayo del año 844 en el monte Laturce que aquí vemos tras la población. La supuesta aparición del Apostol Santiago en un corcel blanco para guiar a las tropas cristianas a la victoria forma parte de la leyenda que se atribuye a la batalla de Clavijo. Foto: Sergio Somalo
Clavijo and its castle
The small town of Clavijo is famous for its castle, a fortification of medieval origin with excellent views over the Iregua valley until it meets the city of Logroño. At the foot of the Cameros mountains, which descend from the Iberian mountain range towards the Ebro valley, and which separate the regions of Camero Viejo and Camero Nuevo. This space was the scene of the Battle of Clavijo, one of the most famous episodes of the Reconquest in which the troops of King Ramiro I of Asturias fought against the Muslims on May 23, 844 in the Laturce mountain that we see here behind the town.
