Iglesia de Santiago el Real

La iglesia de Santiago el Real es la iglesia de origen más antiguo de la ciudad de Logroño.

Su origen se remonte a esta cripta de los primeros años de la cristianización de la zona. En el año 844, tras la Batalla de Clavijo, se amplía construyendo encima en estilo románico que es destruido casi por completo en un incendio. Entre los años 1513 y 1527 se realiza la obra de la iglesia actual y entre 1570 y 1573 se construye la torre. Tiene una sola nave, capillas entre los contrafuertes, transepto y cabecera ochavada de cinco paños con cripta. Se cubre con bóvedas estrelladas, de terceletes y de crucería.

Tiene incoado expediente como Bien de Interés Cultural en la categoría de Monumento desde el 28 de mayo de 1981.

Church of Santiago el Real

The church of Santiago el Real is the oldest church in the city of Logroño.

Its origins can be traced back to this crypt in the early years of the Christianisation of the area. In the year 844, after the Battle of Clavijo, it was enlarged and built on top in Romanesque style, which was almost completely destroyed in a fire. Between 1513 and 1527 the current church was built and between 1570 and 1573 the tower was built. It has a single nave, chapels between the buttresses, transept and an octagonal chancel with five sections and a crypt. It is covered with star-shaped, tierceron and ribbed vaults.

It has been registered as an Asset of Cultural Interest in the category of Monument since 28th May 1981.
