Práxedes Mateo Sagasta

Es una de las personalidades más sobresalientes de la vida social y política de todo el siglo XIX.

Ingeniero, periodista, hombre de acción, liberal por devoción y por convicción, Sagasta representa la imagen del estadista de su tiempo. Sus planteamientos políticos y su inquebrantable afán modernizador en una España que luchaba por no perder el ritmo de la historia, le hicieron abordar importantes reformas desde las más altas responsabilidades. A él debemos, entre otras iniciativas, la aprobación definitiva del sufragio universal masculino.

He is one of the most outstanding personalities in the social and political life of the 19th century.

Engineer, journalist, man of action, liberal by devotion and conviction, Sagasta represents the image of the statesman of his time. His political approaches and his unwavering zeal for modernisation in a Spain that was struggling to keep up with the pace of history led him to undertake important reforms from the highest positions of responsibility. To him we owe, among other initiatives, the definitive approval of universal male suffrage.

This permanent exhibition in his native town commemorates his figure and his work.
